Save some space - Preview & Source

Thanks for getting in touch, and I’m glad to hear that you’re still using Showtime and that it works well for you.

You remember correctly — in the past we did discuss the idea of adding an option to disable the creation of the Source and/or Preview folders. However, this feature has not been implemented yet.

It’s still on our list as a possible enhancement for the future, but I can’t give a specific timeline at the moment. For now, Showtime continues to rely on those folders for compatibility and consistency across different use cases.

That makes total sense — freeing up 10+ GB is definitely not negligible.

Your approach is perfectly fine as long as you’re aware of the trade-off when replacing thumbnails, which you clearly are.

For now, keeping the Preview folders intact is the safest option, since they are actively used by Showtime for rendering and consistency. Removing them would indeed save additional space, but it could lead to unexpected issues, which is why there’s no built-in option for this yet.

If and when we add a configurable option for Source and/or Preview handling, it will be announced in the release notes. Until then, your current setup is a reasonable and pragmatic compromise.
