ine 233 in /plugins/system/econa/src/Extension/Econa.php attempts to access $item->extension while $item is undefined/null, causing two PHP warnings:

- Undefined variable $item
- Attempt to read property "extension" on null

PHP 8.4.15
Joomla 5.4.2
Econa 2.2.1

Hi Jip,

Thanks for reporting this.

You’re right — the code around that line is incorrect and should not be accessing $item->extension when $item can be null. This will be fixed in the next update.

To help me pinpoint when this code path is triggered, could you please share a bit more context?

  • Does this happen during a save action, or just when loading a page?
  • Which component or view were you using when the warnings appeared?
  • Is this happening consistently or only in a specific scenario?

Any additional details will help me reproduce the issue and make sure the fix fully covers it.

Thanks again for the report.

Best regards,
Lefteris

Hi Lefteris,

Thanks for the quick response! Honestly, I don't know what triggered it. The errors occurred on February 3rd at 10:48 AM, only 2 occurrences. I cannot reliably reproduce it. I have been working on template overrides (com_content and article module). Maybe that somehow triggered these warnings.

Bets regards,
Jip

Hi Jip,

Thanks for the extra details.

That fits with what we’re seeing — during template overrides (com_content / article module) Joomla can trigger this code path without the expected context, which results in those warnings.

They’re harmless, but the missing null check is a bug on our side and will be fixed in the next Econa release so it won’t appear again.

Thanks again for reporting it.

Best regards,
Lefteris
