Stéphane
Hi,
I'm testing CommentBox on a website newly updated to J5.
I find very strange and not practical the way we select the pages where commenting is opened. As it is an exclusion list, I had to select almots all the pages of the site except the "blog" and "video" pages, because most pages are built with a main article.
This means that I will have to think to manually deactive comments on every new page I will create in the future...
All pages article are uncategorized, only the blog and video pages articles are categorized (obviously with the "blog" or "video" categories 😉).
Could I hope a change in this selection way ? I see two possibilities :

a positive selection : I want comments on these pages and no other
a selection by articles categories

Thanks for you help.
Website is www.pauleterreaux.fr

Hi Stéphane,

Thank you for taking the time to test CommentBox and for sharing such detailed feedback — it’s very helpful.

CommentBox is designed to work across any Joomla content, not only core Joomla articles. Because of that, relying on article categories is not always possible or reliable, especially when comments are enabled for content coming from third-party components. For this reason, the current logic is based on menu items, which is a common and consistent approach used by many Joomla extensions.

In most Joomla sites, there are usually a limited number of “entry” menu items (blog pages, category views, special sections), while individual articles are accessed through those menus. In such cases, selecting the relevant menu items is typically a one-time setup.

That said, your use case is absolutely valid — especially for sites where:

  • most pages are single-article views, and
  • only specific sections (like blog or video) should allow comments.

A positive selection mode (enable comments only on selected pages) is a reasonable idea, and this is something I can certainly consider for a future release, to better support sites that don’t follow the usual menu structure.

Thanks again for the thoughtful suggestion and for testing CommentBox.

If you have any additional ideas or edge cases, feel free to share them.

Best regards,
Lefteris
