#1141 – Joomla , Schema tab , Route 66 metadata

 Hello,
Since Joomla 5, the schema tab in the Joomla-article-window prepares metadata, for injection in the article header, and better recognition by the Google crawler. The schema tab is very flexible as you can adjust the form to the type of article, ImageGallery, Recipee, Video, Guide, etc. BUT the schema tab, does not recognize automatically the metadata already added in the publication tab. One has to copy and paste the existing metadata from the other tabs.

The Route 66 metadata plugin does the same, it prepares metadata , for injection in the article header, and better recognition by the Google crawler. The Route 66 metadata plugin is convenient as it fills in automatically the proper fields of the form with the existing metadata. BUT Route 66 metadata plugin is not flexible, it proposes only the type Article, or Product, and very little customisation.

How to get the best of both worlds ? I have prepared a set of plugins for the schema tab for Joomla 5 : NewsArticle, ImageGallery, VideoGallery, VideoObject, LearningResources, FAQPage, Periodical, Guide, on top of the core Joomla ones. Ready to share.

Lefteris, do you think that it would be possible to add new schema types the Route 66 metadata plugin ?

Since Joomla added a whole group of plugins for schema metadata we are considering to remove completely schema functionality for the new Joomla 5 native version of Route 66.
Maintaining this just to avoid some copy pasting does not make sense. You can request the auto-complete feature in Joomla repository in GitHub so when some fields are blank, the defaults from the "Publishing" tab are used.
What's your opinion?

in the post I did not mention Route66, as I have done, in the posts on the joomla forum.
Would it be wise to add a sentence such as : " this is what the "Content - Route 66 Metadata" plugin does actually"
