#1105 – JOOMLA 5 and compat plugin

I confirm that I am using Route 66 component and it works with Joomla 5, on a test site. But as the compatibility plugin slow down everything, I have kept the production site with Joomla 4. I confirm that route 66 works very well.

My question : do you have a target date for adapting route 66 to Joomla 5 without the compatibility plugin ?

Hi Manuel,

The compatibility plugin is just code that was included in Joomla 4 core files. So I don't think that it will make your site slower compared to Joomla 4. It should be exactly the same.
This plugin has three options. Route 66 (and most extensions) only need the first option enabled. You can try to disable the other two options to gain some performance.

We are preparing already our extensions to work with Joomla 5 without the compatibility plugin.
But I don't think that switching now to Joomla 5 is a good choice. I suggest to wait a couple of months so some issues are fixed.
For example in Joomla 5 there is no option to disable dark mode. I don't think your clients will like this.

Unfortunately I cannot give an estimated date for this but it will be soon. Actually the next update of the extension probably would not require the compatibility plugin.

!Cagenda and Route66 are the 2 extensions remaining on the voileux website, that are not fully compatible with Joomla 5 without the compat plugin. !Cagenda has annouced the compatibility for January 2024, coming month.
I have set a test site on which I keep Route66. I check the SEO ranking of new articles on this test site, and then I copy and paste these new articles on the live site. This is not quick and easy. I would appreciate Route 66 to be compatible with Joomla 5 without the compat plugin, in a foreseeable future.

I hope you've had a merry christmas, and that you are actively preparing for the new year night :-)

Some fuel for thought for Route 66 component for Joomla5 : would it be possible to split Route 66 main plugin into 3 parts that could be activated separately ? the url-routing-rewriting system, the SEO guide, and the injection-into-the-header-part ?
I would use the routing sytem for nice and short url, and the SEO guide, but I am using the Schema.org system for specifying the data for google search.

Each feature of Route 66 can be enabled/disabled through options. So there is no need to split anything.
If you need help to disable a specific feature of Route 66 please let me know.
