Would it be possible to show a custom text, if a gallery does not contain any images ? Otherwise this is a feature request.

Yes, it is as a custom field. I have a customer, who needs to show a message with contactinfo, when the are no art works available for a certain artist. It would be nice if this could be shown automatically, when the gallery in this custom field does not contain any images.
We have taken the same approach as the core custom fields for that. When there is no data we do not render anything.
We will consider this. Until then, I can help you implement this using a layout override for the article view. If you are interested, please create a new private ticket and provide administrator credentials.
