#514 – Can we remove the content of media/showtime/tmp?

Status: Closed - Category: Showtime Image Gallery
We noticed that the media/showtime/tmp is rather big on one of our sites. Can we safely delete the contents of this folder? Or should this actually be empty?

Is is maybe possible to use the Joomla tmp folder instead of this showtim tmp folder? But that might not work, not sure.

We could also add this Showtime tmp folder to the cache cleaner extension (Regular labs). But we do need to know if it is save to delete the contents of this folder.

Kind regards,
Jip
Hi,

Yes you can delete or empty this folder. This folder contains the temporary file uploads. When the save (or cancel) button is clicked the the temporary files should get removed automatically. Is it full of folders and files or just a couple of them?

The /tmp folder of the Joomla is not used in that case because some extensions block web access to this directory and this means that you cannot see the image preview when it is uploaded.

Hi!
There were 6 subfolders in this temp folder. I have removed them now.

I think we can add this folder to Cache CLeaner plugin to empty it out once in a while.

Of course it would be best if this tmp folder did not retain the subfolders / files but I am not sure why this happens. Maybe you could check this om a dev server and see if this happens there as well?

It's not a big issue. Just needed to know if it is save to delete the content of this templ folder.

Kind regards,
Jip
This can happen if you upload some images and then close the browser window without clicking the save or cancel buttons. Each new gallery gets a temporary folder so you don't have filename conflicts. Imagine two users trying to upload an image with the same filename. If we were using the same folder then you could have the one file overwriting the other one.
