#1032 – Order of Galleries in Module

Status: Open - Category: Showtime Image Gallery
Hi there,

is there a way to control the order of the galleries display. I would appreaciate to control it like it is for articles with articles order?

Kind regards,
Tanja Vogt
Hi Tanja,

The module has 4 available ordering options at the moment. There is no custom ordering feature at the moment.
May I ask, are you using the module with filters or with dynamic mode? If you just want to display some specific galleries you can also use the "Custom HTML" module and insert those galleries in the editor of the module.

Regards

Hi Lefteris,

I used the module with a filter for category and a custom layout, that makes it easy to loop through the galleries and have the same layout for all.
If I would use the custom module I would have to create a custom content layout and assign it to every single gallery.

Maybe I can use the creation date but I can only manipulate it in the database, which I don't want.
I will find a solution for this but it would be nice to have the a custom ordering feature.

Thank you
Tanja
Hi Lefteris,

I was wondering if there are any updates on that feature. I really would need to sort the galleries in a category manually. Maybe it could be done exactly like it is with the Joomla articles. So that you can sort the galleries in the list with drag and drop and there is an ordering value saved to the database with which the module can sort the galleries when custom sorting is selected.

I want several galleries display in a grid with the first picture shown only. I could managed that with creating a custom module for each gallery and than place the modules in the grid columns manually. But than, If a gallery ist unpublished there is a white space in my grid. And I have to add every new gallery to the grid which I really would like to avoid because our clients has the ability to create new galleries by himself and I cannot teach him to add the galleries to the grid.

I think it would be a great feature.

Kind regards,
Tanja
Hi Tanja,

I am still considering adding the ordering feature. However, if this will happen, it will be probably be available with the next major update of the extension which will make it fully compatible with Joomla 5 (there would be no need for the compatibility plugin).
As for now, I can help you with the white space issue if that can serve your needs for now. Probably the white space comes from the layout content.

Regards

Hi Lefteris,

thank you for your answer. I am happy to hear that you are willing to integrate the ordering feature.
I solved it otherwise. I made a custom module for each gallery with a custom layout and then load the modules in the order I want to have them. So our client cannot add new galleries by himself but I think this will be ok.

If you are working on a new major version, I have another feature request. Would it be possible to add the gallery title (or the article title if the custom field is used) to the folder where the gallery is stored, e.g. 05-gallery-title-slug.
So you could easier find a gallery and in the article choose maybe the preview version of the first picture as intro image. Now where the galleries are only saved with the ID, it is difficult to find the correct gallery.

I already changed the helper.php and save the title in the folder (would have been smart to use the Slugify Function of the Joomla Core ;-)) and that works as long as no one changes the title of the gallery. Then nothings works anymore, because the folder title doesn't get changed.

I would really like to have this feature and get rid of my core override.

Thank you
Tanja
